Hi, I’m Kiera! I’m a homebirth mama of one, a Birth & Postpartum Doula, and a Newborn Care Specialist. My passion for birth work came well before my decision to birth at home.
Rewind to 2018 when my anxiety and depression was so bad that all I wanted to do was stay in bed all day. When I wanted to sleep through the day, because I was sleeping terribly at night. When I would literally cry for no reason. When I was having panic attacks in my car on my way to work. My hormones were a wreck from stopping my birth control, and my anxiety was at an all-time high. It was then when I discovered nontoxic products and slowly learned more and more about what we were using on a daily basis, and how it was affecting my physical and mental health. Sadly, the toxins that are in the products we use everyday (including the ones that we put on our babies) can be so harmful.
Unfortunately there are more regulations for what we spray on our FOOD than for what we spray on our BODIES. Since making the switch to using nontoxic products on a daily basis, my health and emotional well-being completely turned around.
This passion for being mindful of my wellness opened so many doors and opened my eyes to so many discrepancies in our society when it comes to health and well-being. There is unfortunately a focus on treatment over prevention, and I’m determined to flip the script on that. I’m forever grateful to have the knowledge that what I put in and on my body plays a large role in my health.
When my husband and I got pregnant, my path to wellness became more focused than ever. I began researching more about birth, and found that options and choices were similar to a focus on treatment, rather than wellness and trusting your intuition. The medicalized society we have around birth, coupled with a pandemic, led us to the decision of birthing safely at home. After having an incredible homebirth experience with my midwives and doula, my life was forever changed. The level of support and empowerment I felt was indescribable. I want every mother to experience their entrance into motherhood with that level of confidence. It is my mission to empower other mothers to advocate for their family’s health, whether it’s the choices they make in their labor and birth, or in postpartum when it comes to researching their options with products— rather than just buying a bottle with a pretty label.
As a doula I support mothers emotionally, physically, and informationally with evidence-based research during labor by helping with positions, pain coping, and advocating for your preferences. Birth choices, birth plans, and all of your options can be overwhelming. You deserve to have the knowledge and confidence to birth your baby the way you choose.
It’s important to do your research. Be your own advocate and empower yourself to find health professionals who value prevention and wellness over treatment. I’m here to empower you and hold space for you to make your own decisions. I believe in your ability to follow your intuition, and trust that you know what’s best for you.
